Some of you have, but many have not yet noticed that we have added a page here that takes you quickly to a collection of Clarence Brown Theatre show photographs from the past three seasons. We don’t have every show, but many of them are here.
Disclaimer: some of these photos were a learn-as-you go process, and most of them were taken not with an SLR with proper creative controls, but with a memory card on a video camera. The resolution is also a lot lower than today’s digital SLRs provide, so the picture size (and blow-up-ability) is less. We have a new Nikon now, and we’re making progress, though! Nevertheless, there are some interesting shots here you might find interesting. We’re storing our photos on flickr, which allows for easy maintenance and several display options.
To go to my CBT summary page, just hit the “Photos” link on the menu bar, or click here or head to http://www.uttheatre.org/flickr.php.
Enjoy!
The Honky Tonk Angels was a hit in Knoxville!
There was another Letter to the Editor in today’s Knoxville News-Sentinel. Fred Barry of Oak Ridge writes:
The singing, acting and story line in this show are superb.
All of the actresses performed wonderfully.
It was worth the price of admission to watch Annalyse McCoy as she demonstrated her emotions through her facial expressions.
Wish the letter had appeared a little earlier, as we ended our run this afternoon (Sunday Sept. 16), but we sure do appreciate all those who have expressed their appreciation to us and recommended the show to their friends.
If you haven’t heard, we made goal (OK, exceeded it a little…) It was a successful show in many ways.
Now onto Major Barbara!
From an email received late Thursday evening (Sept. 6):
We just got home from seeing Honky Tonk Angels and we thought it was great. We laughed at times till we cried. It was very entertaining and would recommend it to any one who likes country music. I went with two friends from work but I am also thinking of taking my Mom to see it. I think she would really enjoy it. Just thought all three characters were adorable and hilarious. Thanks for great entertainment.
In case you’re wondering, we are enjoying very strong sales for our production of The Honky Tonk Angels! (and we have, as of this writing, nine performances left — tell your friends!)
Audience response has been overwhelmingly enthusiastic — some people are returning a second time with family members and buddies in tow — so they won’t miss it!
There’s a letter to the editor in the Thursday, Sept. 6 edition of the News-Sentinel responding an earlier review which is typical of the response we’ve been getting.
A sample of what Sandra Kay Stout Filston and Howard C. Filston had to say:
Their voices seemed perfect for the roles they were playing, and their acting abilities came through with wonderful facial expressions and audience contact.
We are blessed in Knoxville with the natural wonders of our mountains and lakes, with excellent athletic events, a wonderful symphony orchestra and a university-based theater company that brings us a wide variety of entertaining productions at a very professional performance level.
Bridget Hardy has reviewed our production of The Honk Tonk Angels in Tennessee Journalist, the news web site of the School of Journalism and Electronic Media at The University of Tennessee, Knoxville.
Ms. Hardy describes her favorite parts of the production in her review. Whether you agree with everything she says, it is obvious she likes the show:
At its heart, the play was about following your dreams, which speaks to all ages. Anyone who loves country music or wants to see three women journey to stardom, go see “The Honky Tonk Angels” before Sept. 16. Whether you love the set, the lighting or the music, it is sure to be a treat.
