Welcome to the Callboard Blog.  This section of our intranet is designed to promote quick communication, collaboration, and feedback.

It is not intended to be “Roger’s Blog”. although you will hear from me from time to time.  It is open to anyone with something to contribute to what we do here at the Clarence Brown Theatre and the UT Department of Theatre.  Just let me know, and we’ll upgrade your access and let you know how to proceed.

In fact, we may even get to the point where you can post things through regular email distribution, although I’m not satisfied with my tests on that yet…  But, we can go ahead and post things like rehearsal and performance reports which will become available to everyone within a few minutes.

Commenting on these posts is an important aspect of this medium, with just one step needed to do that.  Although casual vistor to the blog may read the posts and others’ comments, you must log in to comment yourself.  It’s not hard — just click on the “register” button and the system will ask you for your email address.  Then it will send you a password which you can use to log in.  You may change this password later to suit yourself.

Whether you come to the blog via menu selection or an individual post link, you will also see some other items listed in the sidebar on the right.  What you are reading now is the “about” link.  There may be other similar “static” type items that would be accessible from the Pages section.  Categories let you see posts of specific interest — about one show, theatre department business, etc.  Search does what you think it would, except that it delivers the full articles containing information relating to your search criteria.  Archives is where you can go to find posts that are older — eventually you’ll see “January 2007″, “February 2007″, etc.  Meta provides various housekeeping functions depending on your user level — mostly, you’ll see “login” so you can comment or post your blog.  Most recent posts is just that — the last ten articles here.  Blogroll provides a list of external blogs — not us — so you can see what others have to say.  Many of the blogs listed there will be theatre related, but we’ll also have others of interest, particularly involving ties to the local area.  Please let us know your favorites so we can add them!

And, finally, this blog publishes an RSS feed which you can subscribe to to automatically see it through your RSS aggregator, or Google Desktop or myYahoo, etc.  To subscribe to the RSS feed, click on the orange button cleverly labeled “Subscribe” on these pages.  It you use an aggregator not listed there, let me know and I’ll see if it can be added.  Our RSS feeds are also set at the top of the newsfeed section of the homepage of the Callboard Intranet, so you can keep up-to-date there as well.

This blog will be much more fun and more valuable the more people participate, so let’s here from you!
