Can You See My Photos Please

Some of you have, but many have not yet noticed that we have added a page here that takes you quickly to a collection of Clarence Brown Theatre show photographs from the past three seasons.  We don’t have every show, but many of them are here.

Disclaimer: some of these photos were a learn-as-you go process, and most of them were taken not with an SLR with proper creative controls, but with a memory card on a video camera.  The resolution is also a lot lower than today’s digital SLRs provide, so the picture size (and blow-up-ability) is less.  We have a new Nikon now, and we’re making progress, though!  Nevertheless, there are some interesting shots here you might find interesting.  We’re storing our photos on flickr, which allows for easy maintenance and several display options.

To go to my CBT summary page, just hit the “Photos” link on the menu bar, or click here or head to http://www.uttheatre.org/flickr.php.

Enjoy!

One Thousand Wins

Filed under: Roger's Musings, UT Vols — rchoover @ 2:05 pm

Pat Summitt after 1000th winCongratulations, Coach Summitt!

The University of Tennessee has been very fortunate having Pat Head Summitt as its Women’s Basketball coach for many years.

Last night, the Lady Vols won their 1000th game with Pat Summitt as their coach –  something no other NCAA Division I coach, man or woman, has ever done before — and perhaps no one else will ever do again.

She’s done it through the years with class and dignity — and of course amazing intensity.  She is a winner, and it’s fun to be a witness to an event like this!

For the record, the Lady Vols defeated Georgia 73-43 before a big crowd at Thompson-Boling Arena.  After the game, there was a special program of recognition, featuring various local dignitaries, things being done to memorialize the feat, and Coach Summitt addressed the audience.

One of the “fun” things was Coach Summitt getting the “Gatorade shower” — only this time (it being indoors in an arena, etc.) it was confetti dropped on the Coach and the Fox Sports South sideline reporter interviewing her.  In the photo below (from the UT Athletic Department’s Elizabeth Olivier), you can see this observer’s son (Roger W. Hoover) at the far right peaking around his computer to watch the action.

The Exonerated Tonight

Filed under: University of Tennessee, Theatre, Reading Series, Clarence Brown Theatre — rchoover @ 11:15 am

The Clarence Brown Theatre Reading Series continues tonight (Friday, February 6, 2009) with The Exonerated.  The reading is in Room 132 at the Law School.

This powerful and moving play, written by Erik Jensen and Jessica Blank, tells the stories of six people who were wrongfully convicted of murder, then exonerated and freed after life-altering experiences in prison. The National Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers awarded Jensen and Blank the Champion of Justice Award for the play.

It’s part of a Consortium on the death penalty in Tennessee, and decision makers about Tennessee’s death penalty will be in the audience.

It’s free, and many of our faculty and students are involved!

And here’s a link to the review in the Metropulse.

(The Knoxville News-Sentinel has given up trying to be a grown-up newspaper, so it doesn’t review all our plays anymore.)

Finally, here’s a link to buy tickets online!
