Worms Running Out for Earlybirds

Filed under: Theatre, Official Business, Clarence Brown Theatre — rchoover @ 2:17 pm

This is a message to Clarence Brown Theatre subscribers who haven’t yet renewed for the 2008-2009 Season:

We may have to release your seats.  We have some new subscribers who have their eyes on some of the seats that our wonderful season ticketholders have enjoyed over the years, and are anxious to see what they can get.  We’ve been holding them off, but the “Earlybird” renewal period has come and gone, and we’re going to have to start seating these new subscribers.

We’ve tried to contact many of the non-renewers via email, and may give some a call over the next day or two, but unless we hear from you this week, we may give your seat to someone else, and then regular subscription rates will apply.

We hate this, but it’s been two months (!!), and we have to get things ready for the new season!

So, give us a call at (865) 974-5161 between 10 am and 5 p.m., or order online at https://www.uttheatre.org/order.

While we want to make new friends, we sure do want to keep the old.

Why you should listen to K-Mets baseball

Filed under: Roger's Musings, University of Tennessee, Students — rchoover @ 11:12 am

You need to hear the play-by-play announcer.K-Mets Voice Roger Hoover

The new Voice of the Kingsport Mets is Roger (W.) Hoover, the son of Roger (C.) Hoover, Box Office Guy at the Clarence Brown Theatre.

Roger will be a junior at UT this fall (majoring in Journalism and Electronic Media), and loves baseball and is really jazzed about doing regular play-by-play for a professional baseball team.  He’ll be broadcasting every Mets Appalachian League game on the internet, both home and away.

Here’s an article in tricitiessports.com about the phenom.

Give him a listen — you can go to milb.com; in the menu, go to “Multimedia” and then “MiLB Gametime Audio” — look for the Kingsport Mets listings.  You’ll have to log in, but it’s free!

Russell Sams’ Bud Light Commercial

Filed under: CBT Alumni — rchoover @ 11:54 am

I’m trying to get the hang of inserting YouTube videos in this blog — the rich editor does something that prevents them from showing, so I’m using a more “raw” approach. Submitting them to the blog directly from YouTube works only if you don’t change anything, and for some reason the main title doesn’t go in the right place, so let’s see if this works…

As with the Bridezillas promo featuring Angela Church posted yesterday, we’re trying to get us all updated on some CBT/UT Theatre alumni. Here’s a fairly recent Bud Light commercial featuring former UT undergraduate theatre major Russell Sams, playing the friend of the guy who turns into a fly…

Vincent at KMA

Filed under: Knoxville, Theatre — rchoover @ 9:07 am

Standing ovations and multiple requests for encore performances last summer prompted Enright Productions to bring VINCENT once again to the KMA stage.  One enthusiastic audience member wrote:

“Last evening’s performance would be hard to top anything I have ever seen on stage!  Really!  It was absolutely superb in every way.”

Written by Leonard Nimoy and starring Patrick McCray, this one-man show explores the life of one of the world’s most beloved and misunderstood artists, Vincent Van Gogh.  Vincent’s brother, Theo, chronicles his brother’s amazing life, from his days as a zealous missionary to his tempestuous relationship with Paul Gauguin and ultimately to his unfortunate death, through a series of personal anecdotes and readings from Vincent Van Gogh’s own letters.

A constantly shifting series of breathtaking slides from two projectors during the play make this a unique, multi-sensory theatrical experience for all ages.  Don’t miss this opportunity for an intimate, touching, witty portrait of this tragic, yet brilliant artist and the brother who loves and supports him despite tremendous difficulties.

Performances will be:

 Thursday, June 5
 Thursday, June 12
 Thursday, June 19

at 8:00 PM in the KMA auditorium.

Tickets are $10 at the door and 100% of the ticket sales go directly to support KMA and WUOT.

Additionally, there will be two performances to start a brand new art therapy room at Friendship House for The Helen Ross McNabb Center.

These performances will be:

Wednesday, June 25th
Tuesday, July 1st

at 8:00 PM in the Knoxville Museum of Art auditorium.  Tickets are $10 at the door.

Please help us support these very important community agencies!

Call 212-5577 or 310-8668 for reservations and information.

Update - Thomas DeMarcus

Filed under: CBT Alumni, Theatre — rchoover @ 9:01 am

Thomas DeMarcusUT Theatre alumus Thomas DeMarcus has been working at his craft, first in Chicago but more recently in New York as a founding member of Wunderkind Consortium.

But now (fanfare), Thomas has been cast in the touring company of a major Broadway show — he’ll be playing the part of Hines (the factory supervisor) in The Pajama Game.

This Tony Award-winning musical includes hit songs “Hey There”, “Steam Heat”, and “Hernando’s Hideaway”.  In his role of Hines, Thomas follows efforts on Broadway by the likes of Eddie Foy, Jr., Cab Calloway, and Michael McKean.

The tour is set to begin in September (2008) — we’ll watch for locations.
